Benahavis - Capital of Costa del Golf

Benahavis is a mountain village located 7 kilometres from the coast, a town well known for its excellent golf courses and located near famous tourist destinations such as Estepona, Marbella and San Pedro de Alcantara.

History of the village

The origin of the village dates back to the Arab domination, possibly founded with the aim of defending the area around the river Guadalmedina and Montemayor Castle, which led to the growth of a major population centre.

Things to do in Benahavis

If you like golf, a good place to stay is Benahavis where you can also visit some of the sights in the village such as:

Montemayor Castle, built in the X century and whose remains are located on a hill which can be reached by a nice hiking trail.

Parque de la Torre Leonera, a Moorish tower built in the eleventh century in a well maintained park, where are held weddings and other events like concerts and shows. In the past it was used as a defence like other towers present in Benahavis as Torre Daidin, Campanillas, Tramores and Torre Esteril.

Benahavis enjoys a privileged mountain location from where you can see a large part of the Costa del Sol, the Strait of Gibraltar and the coast of Africa. Through the municipality run three rivers that originate in the Serrania de Ronda: Rio Guadaiza, Guadalmansa and Guadalmina.

The route by car from Malaga airport to Benahavis passes the towns of Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella. You have to drive through Nueva Andalucía and turn right at the height of Guadalmina from where you head northwards and after passing by the Golf Club Higueral you reach Benahavis.
